Thank you for keeping the tutorial of the week alive. I really like the idea.

I translated this tutorial and some others, five in total so far, you picked in the past into Japanese (thanks to Creative Commons at the forums).

I got my LifeDrive to work under Kubuntu using JPilot. 0.99.9.17. As above, added visor to /etc/modules, and added a custom udev rule:

# sudo vi /etc/udev/rules.d/10-custom.rules
# BUS==”usb”, SYSFS{product}==”palmOne Handheld*”, KERNEL==”ttyUSB[02468]“, NAME=”pilot”, GROUP=”uucp”, MODE=”0660″

Now Jpilot could work with device /dev/pilot

It did work when I wrote the post, I used it. It was a while ago, and I switched computers and upgraded since then. I have not used it recently, I’ll check, thanks.

I’ve been trying to use this method, but I’m somewhat disconcerted by the fact that the output of apt-cache policy does not reflect contents /etc/apt/preferences …

Does this actually work?

I’m using the dontzap package now, because Alt+PrntScrn+K logouts weren’t very clean (produced graphics garbage). Ctrl+Alt+Backspace looks much nicer.

I wonder, why is there a difference? Each must have its own way of restarting X.
