I’m a bit sad, I realise that this update will be the first one I won’t do since the warty to hoary one.

Note for the Ubuntu users:

If I were you, I’d update just before the final release. It’s stable enough and the servers still not overloaded.

If you want something more secure, wait a week after the release, have a look at the feedbacks on the forum to know potential issues you can expect (don’t be too paranoid, forums are full of people having problems) during your upgrade. For the french users, move to the servers in Belgium or Switzerland if the french ones are too slow.

Hmm, interesting thread. I should subscribe to the list.

Personally I don’t think any mirrors would mind being probed a couple of times a day. We all have the bandwidth for *that*. And the prober doesn’t even need to download the file, just check that it’s there and has the right size & date.

@ Stephano: would you know of any way to verify this?
I just checked one that was labeled “One week behind”, and it states: “This mirror was last verified 2 hours ago”. Some of the repos were “Unknown freshness”, some “Up to date”, others “One week behind”.
/me goes and digg further.

I don’t know how accurate “one week behind” actually is. My mirror (UCT LEG) updates every night from the main mirror, but is always listed as a week behind.

So, take it with a pinch of salt.

the “best” solution i think is to use two or more mirros at the same time, when i was using Ubuntu i had a french mirror (Orange), and then the official Ubuntu mirror.

Updated packages are taken from the french mirror, outdated are juste taken from the official :D it’s a good way to have an updated stuff when using a French mirror.

Let’s try it :)
